How I Work

The basis of my coaching is working with feelings and the energy attached to them. This involves “releasing” or “letting go” of the feelings as they come up. Over the years in my career as a social worker and coach, I’ve tried many methods and I’ve found release work to be the only method that truly helps the client in a lasting and meaningful way. For the coach it removes the guesswork; for the client it’s easy, immediate, and permanent. And quite often it’s a lot of fun.

These are the kinds of results you can expect:

Life will have more meaning. It will feel as if a weight has been lifted off your shoulders. You’ll feel more alive, more in touch with yourself and the world around you. You’ll see things more clearly.

You’ll have a more relaxed attitude towards your work and the people around you. Over time you’ll become more accepting, more forgiving, and grateful for what you have; if the work is not right for you, you’ll be inspired to find something more suitable and rewarding.

You’ll feel more connected in your relationships. As you let go of judgements, little annoyances will no longer bother you. You’ll be at peace with the way others are, opening up a way for fun and intimacy. Some relationships—the ones that no longer serve you—may fall away naturally.

Negative patterns will disappear. As your energy shifts, so too will your thoughts and actions, along with your needs and wants. You’ll find yourself naturally making choices that serve you, rather than ones that sabotage you. What you “lusted after” previously may now no longer feel attractive to you.

You’ll find yourself taking action; you’ll no longer be stuck. When you release negative energy, you no longer need the patterns or addictions that in the past kept you stuck. Rather than suppressing your feelings, you’ll be able to immediately release them, thus getting them “out of your own way” and freeing you to take action.

Your relationships will be transformed. As you stop blaming others and stop trying to change them, and as you take responsibility for your own actions and reactions, you’ll become a more loving, accepting friend and partner. Imagine what could happen if both of you change together.

My guiding beliefs

Unconditional acceptance is the greatest gift you can give. When people feel truly accepted, they have the freedom to change what they’re doing. You’ll know you’re being accepted by the way you feel.

Traditional therapy, where the focus is on the problem not the healing process, does not work. When you focus on the problem, nothing changes. Or it’s a long, slow change. It’s also painful and unnecessary to pull up past hurts and traumas.

You can’t change anyone but yourself, and you can’t control anyone but yourself. Once you truly understand that all you need to change is yourself, you’ll begin to experience freedom and joy in every area of your life. People, things, and situations that previously seemed out of your reach will come into your life in delightful and unexpected ways.

Change occurs when you release the negative energy in your body. You need only become aware of it to be able to let it go. Once you let it go, it’s gone for good.

Your body will tell you when something needs to be healed. All negative energy can be felt somewhere in the body. When you pay attention to the body, you can release feelings as they come up. This is incredibly freeing.

Life is an interpretation game. When you change your interpretation of events, your whole life changes. This occurs naturally over time as you resolve your key issues.

The ultimate goal is inner peace. Along the way you may make more money, have better relationships, and have the freedom to do what you love to do. These are the results of releasing, not necessarily the goals.

“No one can change the past; what you can do, however, is change how you feel about the past.”
– Dale Halaway

Working With Me

Coaching sessions can be on the phone or in person, your home or mine; they last about an hour, sometimes longer. I’ll ask you to come to the sessions prepared; you simply need to decide what issue you want to work on. That’s the starting point, the tip of the iceberg. If the time is right we might go deeper. There’s always a deeper place to go, but you would need to be ready and willing. Most people get to this point after a few sessions.

I listen to your “story.” This could be anything, such as: a difficult work situation, a specific event that happened since our last session, a longstanding life problem, or an irritation that bugs you. You only have to tell me as much as is comfortable for you. As you tell your story, you’ll start to feel some negative energy in your body, generally an uncomfortable feeling in the chest or solar plexus. When you’ve finished talking, I’ll ask you if you’d like to release the negative energy. We spend as much time as needed on releasing. We release until you feel at peace.

We can also discuss strategies for change. During the session you can ask me questions, or I might ask you questions or share an insight with you. With my guidance you’ll understand how to think differently, so that in future you won’t react in the same negative way. If you do react, you’ll be able to let it go as soon as it comes up.

I like to keep my coaching sessions as light-hearted as possible. When we can laugh at ourselves, change comes more easily. Sometimes, however, this is not appropriate; I take the lead from the client.

How I’m Different

There are many different approaches to life coaching. A lot of coaches are “action” coaches: they work with you on your goals, then on your action list, and then you’re accountable to them for your actions. This is attempting to change the outside, which in the short term may or may not have results. However, any change will be limited to the specific area worked on with the coach, and is generally not permanent.

As a Transformational Life Coach, my purpose is to help clients change from the inside out. At first the internal change may be small, yet the outer change can be big. With time as more emotional layers are peeled away, all areas of your life will change for the better. This is the road to inner peace and true happiness.

I am not a traditional coach or therapist, nor am I a business coach. However, I work with anyone, including those who might typically go to a therapist, or a traditional or business coach. When you heal the underlying issues, everything falls into place. The past falls away and all manner of successes and gains—personal, business, financial, emotional, spiritual—come more easily.
